SHERMAN OAKS—On Thursday, June 8, firefighters rescued two passengers whose car fell off the cliff in the 13300 block of West Mulholland Drive in Sherman Oaks. The crash was reported at about 7:35 a.m.

The white SUV landed in a ravine 50 feet below the road. The vehicle suffered from what appeared to be scorch marks from fire. Firefighters descended and safely lifted the occupants, a 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, who rescuers found next to the vehicle. Ambulances transported the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Similar incidents have previously occurred on Mulholland Drive. In April, a man drove his vehicle over the cliff on Mulholland Drive. Officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene at 9700 block of Blantyre Drive, where they found the vehicle at the side of the cliff, about 150 yards from Mulholland Drive.

At the time, authorities were not able to locate the driver, after forming a rescue team. They later found and arrested the driver at the address registered to the car.

In February 2010, actor Charlie Sheen’s car also suffered the same fate. The actor reported his 2009 Mercedes-Benz stolen from his Sherman Oaks home. Police later found the car 300-400 feet down a cliff in a ravine off Mulholland Drive.

Just four months later, the actor underwent a similar incident, where one of his cars drove off the cliff in the 13300 block of Mulholland Drive. Firefighters found the silver 2010 Mercedes at the foot of a cliff, but could not locate a driver or passenger. Police traced the license plate to Sheen’s home in Sherman Oaks. Sheen was not aware his car was missing and told police he had last seen his car parked in the garage at 4 pm that day.

The cause of the incident on June 8 is still under investigation.
