BOULDER, CO—UCLA fell to 0-4 with their loss against the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, September 29. Chip Kelly’s team continues to struggle as the offense is still searching for a spark.
The Bruins started the game off well, scoring on their second possession. After evading pressure on 3rd and 13, Thompson-Robinson ran for 17 yards to get the first down. A couple of plays later, Thompson-Robinson found wide receiver Michael Ezeike for a 12-yard touchdown.
The Buffaloes would respond on their next drive with a touchdown. On 1st and 10, quarterback Steven Montez found a wide open wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. for a 57-yard touchdown. The score was 7-7.
UCLA would regain the lead with a 21-yard field goal. The score was 10-7. However, the Buffaloes offense was not finished. Montez led a 12 play 80-yard drive that ended in him rushing for a 10-yard touchdown. The Bruins would respond with a field goal. At halftime, the score was 14-13.
UCLA would open the second half with a field goal. However, those would be the Bruins’ last points of the game. Montez continued to have the hot hand on Colorado’s next drive. On 2nd and 7, Monetz hit wide receiver Kyle Evans for a 31 -gain. A couple of plays later, running back Laviska Shenault Jr. scored from 1-yard out to make the score 21-16.
The Buffaloes would add a 6-yard TD from running back Travis McMillan, a 41-yard field goal from kicker James Stefanou, and a 35-yard rushing TD from Montez helped Colorado blow out UCLA, 38-16.
An 0-4 start puts the Bruins in a huge hole, with only a month into the season. UCLA will attempt to get their first win next week against Washington.
QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA) finished 17/35 for 138 yards with 1 TD. RB Joshua Kelley (UCLA) finished with 124 yards on 12 carries. QB Stephen Montez (CU) finished 22/25 for 237 yards with 1 TD. He also rushed for 81 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries. RB Travon McMillan (CU) finished with 102 yards and 1 TD on 21 carries.
