BEVERLY HILLS—Let awards season begin! Nominees for the 2019 Golden Globes Awards were announced on Thursday, December 6. There are some surprises people, but leading the pack of all contenders was the drama “Vice,” chronicling the life of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Followed close behind with 5 nominations apiece were critical darlings “The Favourite,” “Green Book” and “A Star is Born.” As noted, big surprises were delivered, which mean we could be headed for an interesting awards season.

“Black Panther” managed to earn a Best Picture nomination despite being released in February 2018, Barry Jenkins is missing from the Best Director race, no Julia Roberts for “Ben is Back,” Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” looks to be a contender this awards season, and all other films better watch out for “Vice” which hasn’t even hit theaters yet. The one odd thing is that “Vice” picked up the most nominations, but failed to garner a Best Picture Drama nomination, it’s been relegated to the Musical or Comedy race which makes no sense whatsoever.

In the TV world, previous winners where shown very little love. Only 1 nomination for the comedy “Atlanta,” and Network television was nearly non-existent in a vast majority of the race I mean last year’s winner for Best TV Drama “The Crown” didn’t pick up any nominations at all.
