BEVERLY HILLS —My name is Romeo – and I guess that you’re having all kinds of thoughts about how I got my name. Well, I admit that I’m a lover, but not in the way that you think.
I may be a little slow to warm up to you, but when I do, you’ll find that I’m really very affectionate. My favorite past time is to curl up next to you on the couch or the bed, and sleep really close, pressed up against you. I can’t wait to be able to do that again!
Oh, by the way, I’m a Whippet. And did you know that Whippets are the fastest animals of its’ size? We can reach 35 miles per hour and cover 16 yards per second at full speed! So you see, I would make a great running companion for someone. Do you think that you could keep up with me?
Seeing that I’m a runner, I can be an escape artist. So, I should always be kept on a leash when out walking or running – and the yard should be securely fenced, with the fence high enough for me not to be able to jump over it. Actually, even though I’m an active one, I would do well in an apartment if I’m given a couple of good walks during the day. As I said before, I’m really a couch potato!
I get along with dogs and cats. I’ve never been with children, but Whippets are said to get along with children, too, as long as they don’t rough house or tease me. Older children would probably be best. I’m not aggressive in any way, I’m not a barker, and I’m even housebroken.
Whippets tend to be sensitive to the cold, so when you take me for walks on chilly days, I would really like to have a sweater on to keep me warm. Seeing that I have such a short coat, I’m very easy to groom. All that I need is an occasional bath – and in-between, you can just wipe me down with a washcloth. However, I do need what every dog needs, and that’s a regular nail trimming. Whether we’re girls or boys, we do need our manicures!
