WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood is sponsoring an educational forum on Saturday, August 20 that will provide community members with an opportunity to learn about marijuana and the topics surrounding its use.

The second-annual Cannabis Education Forum— “The Golden State of Cannabis” —is scheduled to transpire between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday at the city of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

The event was organized by the group Cannabis Education Forum (CEF) and co-produced by WomenGrow Los Angeles, who are hoping to facilitate a dialogue about the impact of cannabis legalization, the current state of the industry and the real-world application of cannabis and hemp use.

CEF aims to create a space where business, medical and cannabis professionals can have an open and on-the-record discussion about the current state of the cannabis industry with the public at-large, according to a press release from the city of West Hollywood.

The forum will present panelists and speakers from the medical field, legal arena and businesses, who will discuss the laws, demand for cannabis and innovative opportunities in its emerging industry.

West Hollywood has been at the forefront of the nation-wide cannabis discussion as early as 1996, when the region came out in support of California’s Proposition 215, also known as the “Medical Use of Marijuana Initiative” or the “Compassionate Use Act,” which permits the statewide use of cannabis for medical purposes.

In 1998, the city of West Hollywood approved a Resolution to oppose the Federal government’s efforts to terminate operations of community-based medical marijuana programs. In 2001, the city approved a resolution that would declare West Hollywood a sanctuary for medical marijuana use, cultivation and distribution.

WeHoTv—which provides access to coverage of city government meetings, issues and informational programming—will host live coverage of “The Golden State of Cannabis.”

WeHoTv programming is available to Time Warner Cable customers within the city of West Hollywood on channel 10; AT&T U-verse customers across Southern California can access it on channel 99; live coverage will also be provided on YouTube at www.youtube.com/wehotv.
