WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood is now accepting nominations for the 18th Annual Disability Service Awards. The awards presentation and reception will take place in October 2016, as part of the City’s recognition of Disabilities Awareness Month.

Nominations for this year’s awards will be accepted until Friday, August 12, at 5:00 p.m. Residents are allowed and encouraged to self-nominate if desired. The honorees will be selected by the city of West Hollywood’s Disabilities Advisory Board at its meeting on Wednesday, August 24.

The Disabilities Advisory Board was created in 1995 and includes nine standing members. The Board addresses issues affecting people with disabilities such as ADA compliance, housing, transportation, and access to city government and services for people with disabilities. They also are vocal in the City Council in making recommendations for certain programs, policies, and ordinances of benefit to patrons.

West Hollywood has presented Disability Service Awards to individuals, business, media, and nonprofit organizations since 1999. The purpose of the Award is to recognize the work that is done to help people living with disabilities, including accessibility issues, commitment to bettering ADA compliance for everyone, and/or advocacy.
