WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood’s annual Historic Preservation Celebration will take place on Monday, May 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event, hosted by the City’s Historic Preservation Commission, will be held outdoors in the North Harper Avenue Historic District, at 1300-1354 N. Harper Avenue, between Fountain and De Longpre Avenues.

The celebration, titled “Hooray for (West) Hollywood,” will follow the theme of the city’s “legacy of iconic architecture and cinema,” according to a press release from the city of West Hollywood. Historic architecture and film locations throughout West Hollywood will be acknowledged.

The event is free, and the public is welcome to attend. Attendees can enjoy a reception, where refreshments will be provided. Movie clips filmed in West Hollywood, going as far back as a century, will be shown. Participants can also join a walking tour of 1920s apartment buildings, which were built under architects Leland Bryant and Arthur and Nine Zwebell.

Validated parking will be provided at West Hollywood City Hall, at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard. Automated parking will be available at the garage entrance on the west side of Sweetzer Avenue, south of Santa Monica Boulevard. Attendees can utilize the free shuttle service, which will run at 15-minute intervals, or walk from City Hall to N. Harper Avenue, which will take about 10 minutes.

West Hollywood’s Current and Historic Preservation Planning Division and Historic Preservation Commission work to recognize and preserve the city’s historic resources. Eighty-six buildings have been designated as historic and cultural resources since 1989, when a Historic Preservation Ordinance was implemented. Such resources are considered valuable and lend the city its character, cultural depth,, and heritage, according to the Historic Preservation website. They provide insight into West Hollywood’s history and are considered investments in energy, time, and money.
