HOLLYWOOD—A woman from New Jersey has been charged with hacking the computer of actress and singer Selena Gomez. Susan Atrach, 21, hacked Gomez’s computer from June 2015 to February 2016, sharing the hacked material over the internet.

Atrach was charged on Thursday, July 12, by the Los Angles County District Attorney’s Office. A motive for the crime has not yet been disclosed to the public. The defendant faces five felony counts of identity theft, five felony counts of accessing and using computer date to commit fraud or to control or obtain money, property or data; and one felony count of accessing and using computer data or taking supporting documentation without permission.

Atrach is facing 9 years and eight months in state prison. Bail has not yet been set. She will be arraigned on August 27.

The Public Information Officer Paul Eakins from the LADA’s Office told Canyon News, “The information allegedly stolen from Selena Gomez included images and other data. We’re not commenting on where it was posted or with whom it was shared.”
