BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills in partnership with the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) started a “Grow LA Victory Garden” workshop which kicked-off on Sunday, April 8. The workshop transpired at the Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate, 905 Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills, 90210.
The workshop will run four Sundays through April 29 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will be taught by Master Gardener George Pessin and other certified Master Gardeners from UCCE.
Instruction will cover the following topics:
-Sunday, April 8: Planning, seed starting, raised beds, container gardening, plant selection.
-Sunday, April 15: Tools, soil structure, soil preparation, plant nutrition, organic fertilizers, transplanting, Irrigation, mulching.
-Sunday, April 22: Integrated pest management, organic pesticides, composting and worm composting.
-Sunday, April 29: Pollination, seed saving, fruit trees, harvesting, review and graduation.
