MALIBU—A two year old girl was found dead in the back seat after a vehicle driven by a motorist suspected to be under the influence left the roadway and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol West Valley Division’s Facebook page.

Magdalena Lisi, 22, was driving north on Malibu Canyon Road, north of Potter Road, according to KTLA. At around 8:50 p.m on Friday, May 27, Lisi driving at an unknown speed in her 2011 Kia drifted to the right and struck a metal guardrail. Trying to regain control she turned the wheel to the left, crossed both the northbound and southbound lanes, struck the hillside and the vehicle rolled over.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and the toddler in the back seat was pronounced dead on arrival. Lisi and the girl were both wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Lisi was airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and was later arrested under the suspicion of a DUI. Lisi and the girl are both residents of Canoga Park and their relationship is unclear.

CHP’s West Valley Office is actively searching for witnesses of the accident. Anyone with information regarding the case can call Officer Bentley at (818) 888-0980.
