HOLLYWOOD—The media gets blamed for either blowing things out of proportion, too much coverage, misquotes, fabrications, lack of coverage, bad reviews and going too far. Everyone seems to blame the press. Celebrity columnists are just as competent as investigative reporters, they both get the dirt. Investigative journalism is when reporters deeply investigate a single topic of interest, such as political corruption, corporate wrongdoing and serious crimes.
Some reporters spend months or years researching and preparing a report. Some even call it “watchdog journalism.” Sometimes even the police give investigative reporters a hard time by saying, “Crime Scene, ” not allowed. Entertainment columnists, however, explore the seamy side of the rich and famous, that sometimes, alas, jumpstarts the career of aspiring singers/actors, fill restaurants, end a marriage by writing a sighting of the two love-birds sucking face, the young Hollywood dating roulette, even break a contract and launch bestsellers.
Gossip columnists really try to stay anonymous, due to stalking , just in case the bad review was taken personally, however, in today’s technologically-driven society everything can be discovered simply by googling your name. Some may see it as having a lot of responsibility and perhaps a lot of clout, and trust me, celebrity columnists are not very well-liked, because they get the scoop, spill-the-beans notoriously, its just shooting from the lip, it’s business, nothing personal.
It’s a tough business that requires a lot of perseverance, dedication and writing skill (not to mention a lot of passion) to make it as a writer these days. Someone, such as an entertainment columnist has to let you know that “Mad Men ” star Jon Hamm has completed a 30-day stint in rehab for alcohol abuse, Variety reports. The news comes just days before the final run of “Mad Men” premieres April 5 on AMC.
His camp tells Variety, “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon completed his treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction. They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward. TMZ, first reported the news that Hamm checked into high-end facility Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut at the end of February.
By now, you have seen the film “American Sniper,” if you haven’t you must be aware that the film has grossed over $528.2 million worldwide. While the film was released in limited theaters on December 25, 2014, it actually opened in wide release mid-January. Bradley Cooper is reportedly in talks to direct his first film which will be a remake of the 1937 musical “A Star is Born.” There has been two-other award-winning remakes since 1937; one featuring Judy Garland and James Mason and the second starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
The film centers on a fading movie star who helps a young aspiring actress while his own career spirals downward. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has been planning a new version of the original film, which starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, for years. Clint Eastwood was first linked to the film since 2011, however it is believed he left when it got delayed and went on to direct the musical “Jersey Boys.”
Bradley Cooper has been considering a variety of projects to direct and has his own production company with Todd Phillips, who wrote and directed the Hangover films. Cooper will be gracing the stage in London in “The Elephant Man,” from May 19 till August 8. Riding high from the successes of “American Sniper” in theaters and “The Elephant Man” on Broadway, he still seems focused.
“The Elephant Man,” directed by Scott Ellis, was first seen in 2012 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. The play, by Bernard Pomerance, tells the story of John Merrick (Cooper), an Englishman born with severe physical deformities, and his gradual acceptance into British society. Usually plays that have any significant move on from Broadway to London.
