HOLLYWOOD—It was an animated flick about a Yeti that ruled supreme at the box-office over the weekend. Yes, I’m referring to “Abominable” which debuted in first place with an impressive $20.9 million. I expect the flick to have some legs considering the critics love the flick and audiences were pleased by the film. Dropping to second place was “Downton Abbey” with $14.5 million. The film version of the hit TV series has amounted over $58 million.

Landing in third place was the dramedy “Hustlers” with $11.5 million. The Jennifer Lopez starrer has since earned over $80 million at the domestic box-office since its release on September 13. Dropping to fourth place was “IT: Chapter Two” with $10.4 million to bring its domestic tally to $193 million, just $7 million shy from hitting the $200 million mark.

Rounding out the top five was the sci-fi adventure “Ad Astra” with $10.1 million. After two weeks in theaters, the Brad Pitt starrer has amounted $35.5 million. Also showing a bit of promise at the multiplex was the biopic “Judy” starring Renee Zelleweger which debuted in seventh place with an impressive $3.1 million haul in just 461 theaters.

However, the month of October kicks off in a major way with the release of the hotly anticipated “Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix. With all the buzz surrounding this flick, I expect it to draw audiences in a major way and to deliver big numbers at the box-office.
