VENICE−Actor Orson Bean, 91, was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Friday, February 7 in Venice. According to reports, Bean was clipped by a vehicle and fell while walking through a Venice neighborhood. A second driver struck the actor.

Both drivers remained on the scene.  According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office the second hit was fatal and is being investigated as a traffic-related fatality.

He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Alley Mills who starred as Fred Savage’s mother on the TV series, “The Wonder Years.”

Bean was attempting to cross Venice Boulevard stepping out between two cars, in front of the Pacific Resident Theatre, where he and his wife were company members. The actor was walking from his home to the theater to meet his wife who was working when the accident occurred.

Bean has appeared on “The Twilight Zone,” “Dr. Quin Medicine Man,” a host for the TV game show, “ To Tell The Truth,” appearances on the CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the ABC comedy “Modern Family,“ “Desperate Housewives,” and the films  “Big John Malkovich” and “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Actor Dick Van Dyke, friends and family gathered to pay tribute to Bean who was still working theater at the time of his death.

Canyon News reached out to the Los Angeles County Coroners Office for a statement, but did not hear back before for print.
