HOLLYWOOD – Well the constant changeover of #1 movies at the box-office continued this weekend, with the remake of “Godzilla” destroying the competition with a massive $93.2 million over the three-day weekend. The movie also broke a record for 2014 with the biggest opening so far to date with $38.4 million on Friday. Let’s just say that record is bound to be broken within the next month or so.

The movie marks the third picture in 2014 to debut to more than $90 million during its first week at the box-office, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “The Amazing Spiderman 2” also had similar feats. Falling to the #2 spot is the R-rated comedy “Neighbors” with $26 million.  With only two weeks at the box-office the picture has already amounted more than $91 million domestically.

Grabbing the #3 spot is “The Amazing Spiderman 2” with $16.8 million. Spidey might be facing fatigue from moviegoers compared to its 2012 predecessor. To date, the picture has only grossed $170 million domestically, but overseas the numbers have amounted to more than $400 million. Coming in at #4 is the Jon Hamm inspirational film “Million Dollar Arm” with a dismal $10 million.

Landing in the #5 spot is the Cameron Diaz comedy “The Other Woman” with another $6 million to its total. Well the Memorial Day weekend is upon us is another comic book franchise invades the multiplex, “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”  Its predecessor was a critical fave, but opened to only $55 million opening weekend. I have a feeling this flick will surpass those numbers.
