HOLLYWOOD—Well it was apparent, audiences were interested in a good scare this weekend, as the home-invasion thriller “No Good Deed” scared its way to the top spot at the box-office. The thriller starring Taraji P. Henson and Idris Elba scared up a tasty $24 million in its opening weekend.

Landing in the #2 spot was “Dolphin Tale 2” with about $16 million. The inspirational tale starring Morgan Freeman and Harry Connick Jr. failed to best the debut from its predecessor that had close to $20 million in its opening weekend.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” grabbed the #3 spot with just over $8 million. The comic book stunner has no crossed the $300 million mark domestically. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” continues to surprise audiences with an additional $4.8 million to its total, while “Let’s Be Cops” is proving to be a sleeper comedy of the summer with another $4.3 million to its tally.  After about a month in theaters, “Cops” has already crossed the $70 million mark at the domestic box-office.

This weekend sees the release of multiple films into theaters that include “A Walk Amongst the Tombstones,” “This is Where I Leave You” and “The Maze Runner.”
