HOLLYWOOD—I don’t think anyone expected “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” to fall from its top spot at the box-office after the debut it had last week. The superhero extravaganza maintained its presence taking in $77.1 million in its second week to catapult itself to the $300 million mark at the domestic box-office in just 10 days.  I’d say the movie might have another week in the top spot, but will face stiff competition in the coming weeks.

The film’s biggest competition was the comedy “Hot Pursuit” starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara. The movie didn’t do as well with critics. Moviegoers weren’t too happy either, as the comedy only brought in $13.3 million. Witherspoon hasn’t had much success at the box-office lately, so perhaps the transition back to dramas might be important for the actress.

Nabbing the #3 spot was the movie “The Age of Adaline” with $5.6 million. The enchanting romance is proving to have legs with moviegoers. “Furious 7” remains in the top 5 with another $5.2 million to its tally and is just a few million away from crossing the $350 million domestic mark. Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” with $3.4 million.

This weekend heats up at theaters as “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Pitch Perfect 2” arrives at multiplexes. An action-packed ride vs. singing ladies: any thoughts on who will win?
