CALIFORNIA—An amputee who maneuvered around using a wheelchair died in his Altadena home as a result of the Eaton wildfire. Anthony Mitchell, 67, and his son, Justin Mitchell, died after being unable to escape their home. Anthony was a retired salesman, and his son Justin suffered from cerebral palsy.

Anthony’s daughter, Hajime White, who lives in Arkansas spoke with her father on Wednesday morning who informed his daughter that he and her brother had to evacuate because the fires were close to their home, she told the Washington Post.

Hajime started a GoFundMe page with hopes of raising $6,000 to take of expenses for her family. She posted the following message on the page:

“Hello my name is Hajime White to my dad it’s Hiji, my graduation gift or babygirl. I am the oldest and one and only daughter of Anthony Mitchell, Sr. and sister to Justin Mitchell. I reside in Warren, Arkansas. As most of you know and have read and, have seen that, I lost my dad and baby brother to the fire in Altadena, California. I have also added one of the interviews I have done.

Therefore, I am setting up this gofund me for travel and lodge for my family and I to attend my dad and brother memorial to honor their life. Just know all prayers, calls, text, and monetary donations will not go unnoticed. Thank you Hajime White.”

Anthony was a great-grandfather of 10, who was waiting for an ambulance and firefighters to arrive and rescue him and his son from the Eaton Fire that was ravaging their Altadena property. Those officials never arrived and both father and son died and were found later huddled together. Criticism has been thrown at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, and Hurst fires have destroyed thousands of acres in Southern Los Angeles and led to the death of 24 people as of Monday, January 13. Eleven people were killed as a result of the Eaton Fire and five people were killed from the Palisades Fire, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office reported, while others have been reported missing. The Palisades Fire which broke out on Tuesday is only 13 percent contained as of Monday, January 13. The Kenneth Fire has been reported at 90 percent contained as of Sunday night.

On January 9, Governor Newsom was captured on camera asking him to address the cause of the wildfires and what is being done to help those impacted. Newsom lied when he said was on the phone speaking with President Joe Biden about the situation. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has also been scrutinized for not addressing issues pertaining to the lack of water or no water in fire hydrants for firefighters to battle the wildfires. She was in Ghana, Africa when the wildfires broke out.

Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Crowley expressed to Fox 11 that budget cuts impacted the department’s ability to battle the wildfires. A recall effort has been issued for both Newsom and Bass because of their handling of the wildfires in the region, with the recall for Bass already reaching over 120,000 signatures of the 200,000 that is needed to implement a recall.

A ton of celebrities have lost their homes as a result of the wildfires including Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Spencer and Heidi Pratt, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Eugene Levy, John Goodman, Miles Teller, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges and Anna Faris to name a few.
