WEST HOLLYWOOD—A swat team detained a barricaded man on Tuesday, August 21 in West Hollywood who was armed with a gun at the time at an apartment near Sunset Boulevard and Doheny Drive. 

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the suspect refused to surrender to authorities during the standoff that lasted for five hours. The suspect was detained by the swat team at around 5:30 p.m.

An email was sent to all residents that read: “PLEASE stay out of the LOBBY. Today at 11:20am a resident on the 1st floor was exhibiting belligerent behaviors. The Sheriffs responded and he locked himself in his unit. Law Enforcement is addressing the situation. Hoping for a speedy solution. We can not take any phone calls at this time. l will let you know when it is clear.”

KTLA reported that a neighbor claimed the man has psychiatric issues which requires medication. Authorities were contacted because of an issue between the tenant and the landlord. Deputies, a K9 team, and a crisis negotiation team assisted to get the suspect to  surrender.

It is not clear what the argument between the tenant and landlord was in regards to. There were no reports of any injuries during the incident. The name of the suspect has not been disclosed to the public.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department told Canyon news the man, who is the tenant, is being charged with criminal threats.
