Bakersfield, CA — A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in east Bakersfield on Monday afternoon, January 20, 2025, according to KBAK.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 2 PM near the intersection of East Truxtun Avenue and Williams Street. 

Investigators say the teen was riding his bike eastbound in the westbound lanes of Truxtun Avenue when he was hit by a gray Toyota sedan traveling westbound.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the teen suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police stated that neither excessive speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the crash.

The Bakersfield Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the department.
