SANTA MONICA—For over 20 years Barnes and Noble has been in business on the corner of Wilshire and Third Street in Santa Monica. It has been called the last major full-service bookstore in Santa Monica.

In January 2017, the retailer decided not to renew its lease, and the establishment will be closing its doors early next year, leaving shoppers with the option to either order books online or search for other brick and mortar bookstores.

Several years ago, Barnes and Noble’s rival, Borders, closed its doors on the same street, leaving Barnes and Noble to be the last remaining bookstore on the 3rd St. Promenade. The Westside Pavilion’s Barnes and Noble, in West Los Angeles closed several years ago and was replaced with an Urban Home Furniture shop. The three-story building will be stratified between four different tenants.
