SAN FRANCISCO — With the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 5-year-old Miles Scott took San Francisco by storm as Batkid, fighting crime as the police department, the U.S. Attorney’s office, several actors and even the mayor participated in his support.
Miles’s day began with a breaking news story on TV where the police chief made a plea for Batkid’s help in fighting crime. San Francisco was transformed intoGotham, and several actors partook in creating an atmosphere that allowed Batkid to demonstrate his heroism.
With the help of an adult Batman and an authentic Batmobile, Batkid was able to rescue a woman tied across a cable car line on Hyde Street, stop the Riddler from robbing a bank, and rescue the San Francisco Giants mascot Lou Seal from the clutches of the Penguin.
The U.S. Attorney’s office issued a news release announcing the arrests of the two villains, and the San Francisco Chronicle published their special edition cover with a story about Batkid’s exploits. At the end of his adventure, the mayor and police chief presented him with a key to the city. 13,000 San Franciscans gathered at the sidelines to cheer and show their support to Batkid, many of them wearing fan T-shirts and holding signs.
