SHERMAN OAKS—In response to the rising temperatures, the city has set up cooling centers. Many of the centers are located at the local libraries, as well as senior centers, community gyms and recreational centers.
As the majority of the centers are city facilities, they are also mandated by city hours of operation. Most of the cooling centers are open Monday through Friday, such as the Senior Centers, which operate on an 8 to 5 p.m. schedule during the work week. However, many libraries have a more restricted schedule. Due to increasing financial pressures on state and city budgets, most libraries are open Tuesday through Saturday.
For more information on how to stay safe in the summer heat and to find your local cooling center, visit the city’s Community and Senior Services website at css.lacounty.gov. Below is a list of some local cooling centers; for a complete list check out the website.
