HOLLYWOOD-Makeup is transitory, a fleeting illusion, but there is a beauty to transitory things, and a value as well. Makeup is like a frame around a picture. The frame does not make the art better, but it does make it look better. Similarly, makeup does not make a better person, but if properly applied, it makes a person look better and by, extension, feel better as well. Some may say it is less addicting than Prozac, far more pleasant and inexpensive than plastic surgery, and these days, almost cruelty-free.
Imagine what an honor to be at BeautyCon 2014 on May 24 in New York City. Pier 36, held thousands of beauty enthusiasts, fashionistas and YouTube fans with one intent and purpose to join their favorite YouTube superstars and celebrities to discuss the future of online media, interactive presentations, shopping, networking and more.
BeautyCon is known as the fashion and beauty summit where the Internet’s most influential beauty and fashion icons meet. Everyone from Kandee Johnson to (MakeupbyMandy24) Amanda Steele, 14, attended. There were plenty of meet and greets, along with a panel discussing the rise of digital influence held on the main stage hosted by Joe Zee, the creative director of Elle magazine. Zee will be heading in the next few weeks over to Yahoo.
The discussion was informative and like everything else, the rise to digital influence can take a while. Sometimes the arrival and not the journey matters, and sometimes the journey doesn’t quite reach its destination. One might think it’s an overnight success, but the journey has been long, filled with turbulence without a visual warning. The panel spoke about the passion of beauty, about never giving up and to dream big.
Fans were up close and personal with such favorite YouTube stars such as Megan (Ciaoobellaxo), Stephanie (SMLx0) and television personality, fashion designer, author, Whitney Port was there to speak on the panel. You may recall Whitney from such television shows as “The Hills,” The City,” and Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model. Whitney launched her fashion line “Whitney Eve,” in 2009. BeautyCon NYC didn’t disappoint, they even had a charging station for cell phones and complimentary goodies from different companies. It was a fun-filled day that resonated with all things beautiful and fashionable.
May 24, was the day that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot in a private ceremony in the Italian city of Florence. The multi-million wedding included Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli singing Con Te Partiro, as the former US Olympic star Bruce Jenner, Kim’s stepfather, walked the bride down the aisle, People magazine reported. Along with the Kardashian clan, the couple’s 11-month-old daughter attended the ceremony. Kim, wore a white, lace Givenchy Haute Couture for her third wedding. Hopefully, the third time’s the charm.
Charming and Greek, actress/writer Nia Vardalos, who I had the pleasure of meeting last year declared on Twitter: “I’m working on the MBFGWedding sequel; now that I’m experiencing motherhood I feel ready to write this next chapter.
Variety has reported that Vardalos and Corbett are set to return for the film, with Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman producing. Vardalos won an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the film. The movie was a surprise hit, grossing an estimated $241.4 million. It was made on a small budget of just $5 million, making it one of the most profitable independent films of all time.
