BEVERLY HILLS—The City of Beverly Hills will take measures to reduce wasteful water practices. These measures have been implemented in response to the state of California facing drought conditions for the third consecutive year. The State Water Resources Control Board adopted regulations to ban wasteful watering practices in cities throughout the state.

The new regulations impose fines that reach up to $500 for wasting water. According to a press release from the City of Beverly Hills, “Starting Aug. 1, runoff from outdoor sprinklers and using a watering hose to clear leaves and debris from driveways, sidewalks and streets will be prohibited.” Drinking water will be prohibited in non-circulation fountains.

The City of Beverly Hills urges residents to limit their landscape watering to three days a week. Residents living in north of Santa Monica Boulevard should limit their landscape watering to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. While residents living south of Santa Monica Boulevard should limit their watering to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Residents are being urged to do watering between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to decrease evaporation. According to the city, watering days can be imposed later if the conservation goals have not been met. The city has an automated leak program and will notify residents if leaks have been identified. Residents are urged to fix any leak or leaks they have as soon as possible.

The Metropolitan Water District offers rebates for those who are interested in installing weather-irrigation controllers, rotating sprinkler nozzles, soil moisture sensors, and replace grass with drought tolerant plant. The program offer rebates to buy high efficiency washing machines and toilets.
