BEVERLY HILLS—Beverly Hills Police Chief David Snowden has announced that he is retiring effective as of June 13, 2015 after serving the Beverly Hills Police Department for more than 11 years. His retirement has been advanced by several months due to impending back surgery.

Snowden has served as Chief of Police for the City since 2004. He has worked in a range of law enforcement roles for close to 50 years. According to a press release from the City of Beverly Hills, Snowden was a former brigadier general in the U.S. Military Reserve and earned countless awards during his lifetime including the Sherman Block Law Enforcement Professional of the Year Award, Costa Mesa Hall of Fame Award and the National Law Enforcement Commendation Medal.

He was responsible for the BHPD launching and expanding high-tech public safety programs, including citywide security cameras, automated license plate readers and opening the Emergency Operations Center.

Beverly Hills Mayor Julian Gold released the following statement thanking Chief Snowden’s contributions to the City: “Our residents and businesses have benefited tremendously from Dave’s commitment to providing the community with the finest in public safety. We wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his years of service.”

Before arriving in the City of Beverly Hills, Snowden was Chief of the Costa Mesa Police Department from 1986-2003 and Chief of the Baldwin Park Police Department from 1980-1986. He is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton and earned the distinguished alumni award in 1989. A recruitment to take over Chief Snowden’s position is expected to occur soon.
