LOS FELIZ—At around 12:00 p.m. on November 22, a female bighorn sheep escaped from the Los Angeles Zoo.

Shortly after locating the sheep at the 2200 block of North Commonwealth Avenue, it was tranquilized. Immediately after, the sheep passed away, despite CPR efforts.

It is not thought that the tranquilizer caused the death, though,  as an eyewitnesses reported the sheep to have been struck by a driver who then fled.

Officials said the animal jumped over an enclosing wall and then over an 8-foot perimeter fence with barbed wire, before taking off into Griffith Park.
