BEVERLY HILLS—It’s the moment critics and movie lovers have been waiting for all year long: The Oscar nominations! Nominees were announced on Thursday, January 15 by AMPAS President Cheryl Boone-Isaacs, actor Chris Pine, and directors J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

For the first-time in Oscar-history, all nominees were announced live. Normally, only the contenders in the major categories are announced during the live telecast. Leading the pack of all nominees was the film “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” with nine nominations apiece.

There were of course those snubs that will have minds wandering for days, weeks, months, perhaps years. No love for Angelina Jolie and her crowd-pleaser “Unbroken,” same notion for “Selma” which was generating massive buzz.

No Clint Eastwood for Best Director, Jennifer Aniston and Amy Adams both missing from the Best Actress race, and we can’t forget about “Selma” which was missing from the bulk of the major categories. No director nomination for Ava DuVernay, no love for David Oyelowo for Best Actor.

Some of the biggest surprises is the amount of love for “American Sniper,” “Foxcatcher” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” Meryl Streep picked up her record 19th nomination for her musical turn in “Into the Woods.” A full list of this year’s nominees are listed below.
