WEST HOLLYWOOD—A 28-year-old woman was found dead and wrapped in a blanket in a West Hollywood dumpster on Wednesday, July 6.

Joie Kinney of West Hollywood was identified as the deceased and authorities have initiated an investigation to discover the cause of her death.

An unidentified man walked into the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station on Wednesday and tipped authorities off to a dead body in a trash bin, Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero told KTLA news.

Deputies arrived in the parking lot of Jerry’s Deli, located on the 8700 block of Beverly Boulevard, near Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to search for the body. The deli closed back in 2013.

The body was located in a trash bin at approximately 11:57 a.m. Authorities suspect that Kinney was a regular to the area where her body was found. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The LASD reported no obvious signs of blunt force trauma to the victim and that the investigation is ongoing.

The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner at a later time.

“We have persons who have told us, more or less, their situation. We have people who either are homeless or some sort of transient conditions that use this place to sleep here at night,” said LASD Sgt. Quintero to the press.
