MALIBU—Officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a decomposing body that was found on the side of the road in an area by the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu. Detectives are currently investigating the cause of death.

The body was found about 10 feet away from the shoulder covered in dirt by a witness who happened to be passing along the road and contacted police at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27. Authorities arrived on the scene at the 24300 block of Piuma Road near Schueren Road.

The roads remained open while police and helicopters were on the scene investigating the case. The name and age of the victim has not been disclosed to the public. body that was found has not yet been released.

The Malibu region has been in the news lately. Tristan Beaudette, 35,  was killed on June 22, after being shot while camping with his two daughters at Malibu Creek State Park. The case is still under investigation by authorities.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department have not indicated if the victim died of natural causes or if foul play was committed.
