TOPANGA CANYON—The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed they discovered the body of a hiker who was reported missing. Authorities found the body of Maggie Dykshorn, 26, on Monday, July 16, after she did not return home following a hike in the Topanga State Park region on Sunday, July 15.

Dykshorn was reported missing after failing to pick her boyfriend up from work Sunday night. Dykshorn is originally from Sioux Center, Iowa and graduated from Champlain College with a degree in Professional Writing in May 2016.

The Los Angeles Police Department received the call at around 4 p.m. near 20800 Entrada Road and arrived on the scene to block off the area where the body was discovered in the bushes of the Trippet Ranch trail area. Dykshorn’s last post on social media was an image taken at Topanga State Park indicating how hot the temperature was outside.

Authorities indicated that Dykshorn may have suffered from a medical condition, possibly heat-related. LAPD officials indicated the death investigation was ongoing.

Officials confirmed the identity of Dykshorn on Tuesday, July 17. Her vehicle was found by the trailhead.
