THOUSAND OAKS—More than a year has passed since the mass shooting transpired at Borderline Bar and Grill, located at 99 Rolling Oaks Drive in Thousand Oaks. During the shooting, 12 people were killed. The dancehall and salon was a frequent gathering spot for college students.

The mass shooting transpired on November 7, 2018, when gunman, Ian David Long, 28, entered the establishment and shot and killed 11 people, before turning the gun on himself.

Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department was set to retire when he was injured by Long during the gun battle. He was killed during friendly fire by a California Highway Patrol officer when a bullet struck Sgt. Helus in the heart
