HOLLYWOOD—Celebrities and pop stars are stepping up to the plate to help in the relief efforts of the devastated Puerto Rico. Rapper Pitbull who was born in Miami and is of Cuban decent, has been praised after sending his private plane to hurricane-hit Puerto Rico to transport cancer patients to the United States mainland.

His good deed, was discovered after a Puerto Rico representative in Washington, thanked him on Twitter. Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Perez-told the New York Daily News he was “just doing his part.” He was quoted saying, “Thank God we’re blessed to help.”

The US island lost its power after being ravaged by Hurricanes Irma and Hurricane Maria. It’s sad to hear stories of humanitarian efforts when half of its 3.5 million residents are without clean drinking water, while hospitals are running short of the diesel needed to power their life support systems. At least 16 people have died from the effects of the most recent hurricane. We are people to donate to the recovery effort, since so many people are in need of supplies. Singer Daddy Yankee, who is featured on the worldwide hit Despacito, has called for donations, as have Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Jennifer Lopez, has joined forces with her ex-husband Marc Anthony to create Somos Una Voz (We Are A Voice), “an alliance of artists working together to rush food, shelter, medicine, power and communications to those in need.” Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Ed Norton and Jada Pinkett Smith are among those who have so signed up to the initiative, which aims to bring relief to all those affected by “recent natural disasters.”

With over 1 billion social media followers combined, the alliance members are encouraging friends and followers to come together, offer donations, and bring “hope and relief to the people who need it most.” Lopez, who alone has over 100 million followers on Twitter and Instagram combined, posted a video sharing her story on Instagram and asking for help in the hurricane’s aftermath. The star also donated $1 million for relief to Puerto Rico.

Twitter is currently doing a trial, to a certain small group of users to double to 280 characters. Twitter currently limits tweets to 140 characters. Some people get frustrated with the current character limit. The longer character limit is being tested in all languages bar Japanese, Chinese and Korean which could convey more information in a single character. Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey was one of the first to try the new limit out, saying it was “a small change, but a big move for us.”

Twitter went out of control just two days ago when word leaked out that Kylie Jenner, 20, is said to be expecting rapper Travis Scott’s baby in February and now Khloe Kardashian, 33, is several months along. Khloe has been dating basketball star Tristan Thompson for one year after being set up by mutual friends. Kim Kardashian, 36, and rapper husband Kanye West, 40, are reportedly expecting a baby girl via surrogate in January. Kourtney, 38, has three children, with ex Scott Disck, 34. Kendall Jenner, 21, is the only Kardashian member without a child or baby in her immediate future. Troubled brother Rob, 30, has one, daughter Dream, 10 months, with ex Blac Chyna, 29. All the baby news comes as “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” celebrates 10 years on the air.
