CLEVELAND, OH—The Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Cleveland Browns 38-14 on Sunday, October 14. The Chargers are emerging as a force in the AFC.

The Chargers scored on their first possession. They used gains of 16 yards each to running back Melvin Gordon and wide receiver Keenan Allen to set up a 4-yard touchdown by Gordon bringing the score to 7-0.

After a few empty possessions on both ends, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers hit wide receiver Tyrell Williams for a 44-yard gain. Rivers threw a 45-yard beauty to Williams in triple coverage for a TD. Everything was going Los Angeles’ way for a change. After forcing the Browns to turn the ball over on downs, Rivers found Williams again for another TD. The score was 21-6 at halftime.

The Chargers put the Browns away after halftime. Defensive back Desmond King intercepted quarterback Baker Mayfield, and Gordon rushed in for a TD from 10 yards out. Gordon added another rushing TD late in the third from 11 yards out. His third TD brought the Chargers score to 35-6. The Browns scored another TD and the Chargers responded with a field goal, but the Browns didn’t have enough fuel to stop the Chargers defense.
