SANTA MONICA—The City of Santa Monica celebrated the 29th Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 5.

Santa Monica community members united with Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks, and members of the Santa Monica Police Department.

Sgt. Rudy Camarena of the SMPD informed Canyon News via email that an estimate of 1,300 to 1,500 people attended the event. The event involves more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

During the event the SMPF celebrated the relationship the police and the community share together and how it strengthens neighborhood and police-community partnerships. The celebration is aimed to send a message to criminals that the community is fighting back against crime.

National Night Out was celebrated at the Santa Monica Civic Center parking lot from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At the celebration there were local bicycle vendors, Safe Kids, driving demonstrations, a giant inflatable fire engine slide, a rock climbing wall, carnival games and food trucks. Free food and drinks were available to all participants.
