UNITED STATES—Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and member of the House Judiciary Committee was asked to leave impeachment proceedings on Monday, October 14. Gaetz attempted to stay for testimony scheduled to given on Capitol Hill by President Donald Trump’s former National Security expert on Russia, Fiona Hill.

According to Gaetz, it was House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff who removed him because he was not a member of the three committees conducting the interview: the Oversight, Intelligence, and Foreign Affairs. It is not clear why the House Judicial Committee is not included during impeachment interviews.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) also tweeted: “@RepAdam Schiff is conducting his secretive impeachment proceedings in the basement of the Capitol, and now he’s kicked @mattgaetz out of today’s deposition.”

Republicans have publicly called on the House of Representatives to exercise Due Process. President Donald Trump publicly released transcripts of his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in late September.

President Trump wrote a letter addressed to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Chairman Engle, Adam Schiff, and Cummings notifying them that he will no longer be cooperating with the impeachment inquiry until Due Process is in practice and proper procedures are followed.

On the Daily Caller, Chris Farrell of Judicial Watch said, “The Trump Non-Impeachment is the most secretive prosecution in history.”

Farrell went on to say, “In most scandals, it is the alleged wrongdoer who wants to keep a lid on information, to stonewall and obfuscate, while investigators insist on openness and laying the facts before the public. In the case of the Democrats’ impeachment-style inquiry-not, an actual impeachment-style inquiry-not an actual impeachment since it hasn’t been voted on – Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff and his collaborators want to keep the proceedings under wraps while the White House is pushing for transparency. That suggests that it is the investigators who are up to no good.”
