BEVERLY HILLS — Copper wire was once again stolen from street lamps on November 27. The Beverly Hills Police Department is urging residents to be on the lookout for copper wire thieves who have so far struck twice in the city.

These wires are usually taken from street lamps, whose power is delivered by these wires. The price for copper wire can go between $1 and $3.

The first theft occurred in the area of Whitford between Rexford Drive andRobertson Boulevard. The second, which occurred on November 27, happened on Lexington Road and on the 1000 block of Roxbury Drive towards Benedict Canyon Road.

Residents are asked to lookout for certain suspicious happenings and behaviors that might suggest the theft of copper wires. They should be aware of streetlights that go out suddenly and for no apparent reason, open access covers on the sidewalk, workers who are working at night without their official uniforms and safety gear and workers who work at night that drive vehicles that are not marked with the City Shield. According the police, “our street light crews have trucks with City Shields and are numbered in the 600s.”

Authorities are asking residents who spot suspicious activity to contact them at 310-550-4951.
