HOLLYWOOD—Visitors of Universal Studios Hollywood will find a new fright-filled attraction this fall, as plans for a new maze inspired by Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming horror film “Crimson Peak” was announced this weekend at Comic-Con in San Diego.
The maze, titled “Guillermo Del Toro Presents Crimson Peak: Maze of Madness,” will officially open its doors on Friday, September 18 and continue on though select nights until the end of the park’s Hollywood Horror Nights season.
Throughout the maze, guests will have a number of terrifying encounters, realistic set design, and continuously hear an eerie voice warning them to “Beware of Crimson Peak.” They will also be accompanied by portions of the film’s haunting score written by Fernando Velazquez.
The maze is described as a “three-dimensional living representation of the film, designed to send guests spiraling through the chilling world and in the footsteps of Crimson Peak’s lead character, Edith Cushing.”
In a statement, the film’s director Del Toro said, “It’s a thrill to work with the movie studio that gave birth to the modern horror movie genre. I can’t wait for movie-goers to enter the haunting world of Crimson Peak as they navigate this haunting maze.” Always a fan of a good scare himself, he also added “I can assure you, I will be first in line to experience the scares of it myself.”
The film that inspired the attraction is set to be released on October 16. According to its official website, the movie’s synopsis tells of a young woman who is “swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay,” after “her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger.” The movie stars Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam.
