SANTA MONICA—Daniel Arroyos, 22, was arrested for attempted murder after trying to run down a construction worker on the Santa Monica Pier near the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant on Monday, December 4.

Sergeant Roberto Villegas indicated in a press release to Canyon News that Arroyos got into a altercation with another group at around 1:18 a.m. Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department arrived on the scene and neither party was “desirous of prosecution, and both groups went their separate ways.”

At around 4:30 a.m., Arroyos returned to get his car near the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co,  by the Santa Monica Pier Deck Parking Lot, when officers received a call about a assault that just transpired. The suspect was intoxicated and steered his car around some low protective barriers to get onto the pier and intended to strike one of the victims he previously got into an altercation with earlier in the day.

The vehicle struck the victim, the restaurant, the pier’s railing and a small decorative rowboat. Arroyos’ vehicle was disabled as a result of additional collisions. All the parties were still on scene when the police arrived.

The victim sustained significant bruising to his leg and hip area. The victim was treated on scene by SMFD Paramedics. Arroyos was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Attempted Murder. Sgt. Villegas informed Canyon News via email that the suspect did not attempt to resist police or flee the scene when they arrived.

“There is still some investigative follow up that needs to be conducted so we are not releasing the booking photo yet,” Sgt. Villegas told Canyon News.

The Santa Monica Police Department is seeking information from additional witnesses or anyone in the area at the time of the incident. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call Detective Goodwin at (310) 458-8942; or the Santa Monica Police Department (24 hours) at (310) 458-8495.
