MALIBU—Authorities arrested Daniel Maldonado, 30, of La Puente after he fatally stabbed another man in the parking lot of the Neptune’s Net restaurant on Saturday, June 22 at around 10:56 p.m. Maldonado got into an argument with the victim who has been identified as a 23 year-old male from Ontario.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported that a group of car enthusiasts met in the parking lot after the restaurant closed. Maldonado became involved in a dispute with the victim over a previously unresolved issue. The incident escalated into a physical fight, where Maldonado used a knife to stab the victim several times.

Witnesses contacted 911 and law enforcement officers from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the California Department of Parks and Recreation responded to the scene as well as representatives from the Ventura County Fire Department and Gold Coast Ambulance. Officials attempted to save the victim, who died of his injuries at the scene.

Maldonado was located at the scene and arrested for one felony count of murder. He was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $500,000 bail.
