LOS FELIZ—On Friday, September 25, a body was found in an SUV parked near the 5 freeway in the 3200 block of Hyperion Avenue.

The body was noticed by a homeless man, who then alerted Robert Kueffner, a local tow truck driver who often waits in the area for jobs. Kueffner knocked on the window of the SUV, a maroon Kia Sorrento, and called the police after receiving no response to the knocks. He was interviewed by NBC SoCal and noted that the car was emitting a stench as he approached it.

The body was found in the backseat, covered in blankets with one of the dead man’s feet sticking out. Kueffner had seen the car in the same location for several days with a parking ticket on its windshield, but did not suspect anything to be suspicious.

Police arrived to the scene at approximately 11:36 a.m. and determined that the dead man had already started to decompose. The man’s identity has not yet been made known, but he is reported to appear to be in his early 30s.

The cause of the man’s death, and whether or not there was any foul play involved, is still under investigation.

Canyon News spoke with Detective Governo from the LAPD Northeast Division. She said that the man had been identified, but his name has not been released to the public yet. The man’s autopsy has been completed, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. “[Cause of death] might come down to a toxicology test and that takes several months,” she said.
