BEVERLY HILLS—A new dog park will be coming to Beverly Hills in late summer 2016.

It will be 18,000 square feet of play for dogs and their owners on the northwest corner of Foothill Road and Alden Drive. There will be separate small and large dog areas where dogs can run off leash, with the small dog area taking up 6,363 square feet of the park and the large dog area making up the 12,255 square feet. Up to 40 dogs can fit in this new park at one time, with owners allowed to take up to three dogs of their own.

“There has been an interest from community members for quite a while,” Dana Beesen, Publicist for the Beverly Hills Community Services Department, told Canyon News.  “We’ve considered and reviewed several different options.” Public opinion and the City Council swayed them to choose the Alden and Foothill area as the best location.

Further rules for the owners and their dogs at the park still need approval by the City Council, but all dogs are required to have a current license in order to gain a permit to access the park. There will be CCTV Monitors throughout the area to ensure the safety of owners and pets alike, and for the first six months of the park’s opening there will be a ranger when the park is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is available metered parking on the street for all guests. All Beverly Hills residents are welcome, as well as those who work or are vacationing in the area.

“We are excited to be able to open the first ever dog park in Beverly Hills,” said Nancy Hunt-Coffey, the Director of Community Services. “It will be a wonderful new place for our community to enjoy.”

Donations are now being accepted to enhance the park with benches, art, and trees. Those interested in making a donation can visit www.beverlyhills.org/dogpark/ or call the Community Services Department at 310-285-2537 with any questions.
