Smoky was rescued by a pair of firefighters Monday afternoon.

The dog was at the Palisades Park with his owner, when, upon spotting a squirrel, he darted into the bushes and found himself lodged in a crevice perched high above the edge of Pacific Coast Highway and the Santa Monica beach.

The dog was rescued by two firefighters, who hoisted Smoky to safety while atop a tall ladder. News helicopters captured Smoky’s rescue and reunion with his owner.
