HOLLYWOOD—Well summer may be coming to an end, but there were plenty of thrills at the box-office this weekend. The thriller “Don’t Breathe” took the top spot in theaters with an impressive $26.1 million. Not bad at all for a flick that cost around $10 million. Considering the surprising twist at the end of the flick, I’d say we can expect to see a sequel in the near future people.

Landing in second place was last week’s box-office champ, “Suicide Squad” which added another $12.1 million to bring its domestic tally to just over $280 million. Nabbing third place was the animated flick “Kubo and the Two Strings” with $7.9 million. The raunchy animated flick “Sausage Party” landed in fourth place with $7.7 million to edge the flick even closer to the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office.

Rounding out the top five was the latest installment in “The Mechanic” franchise, “Mechanic: Resurrection” with $7.5 million, which surprised me a bit. This is a movie that had very little publicity in my eyes and you have to consider other notable releases like “Southside With You” and “Hands of Stone” didn’t even crack the top 10 at the box-office this weekend. Considering we’re heading into the Labor Day holiday weekend next week, it’s safe to make the argument that “Don’t Breathe” will reign supreme at the box-office for a second consecutive weekend.
