SANTA MONICA—On February 27, a man’s body was found in Santa Monica along the Pacific Coast Highway near 4th Street.
Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of a corpse near the highway, arriving to the scene at 3:05 a.m. to find the man adjacent to one of PCH’s Northbound lanes.
The body was initially discovered by a driver who spotted a shoe in the road. Upon further investigation, the man was found and reported to authorities.

Because the circumstances of his death were initially unclear, police treated the discovery sight as a crime scene, closing both sides of PCH until 8 a.m.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of death, which could range from a hit-and-run accident to a potential fall from the nearby cliff face.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed to the public. The death is currently under investigation.
