HOLLYWOOD HILLS—A hired driver tried to flee from an armed robber on Thursday, July 7, resulting in his vehicle flipping over and being shot by the suspect.

The driver dropped off a female customer at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday at the 3400 block of Troy Drive. After driving off,  the woman was approached by an armed robber, demanding money.

Upon learning the woman had no money on her, the suspect persuaded her to call back the driver, who then returned to the scene and was confronted by the robber.

According to authorities, the driver saw the suspect’s gun and tried to flee, putting his car in reverse, but crashed into an embankment and flipped his vehicle. The suspect approached the wreckage and shot the driver before fleeing on foot.

Authorities arrived on the scene and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Police originally believed the victim to be an Uber driver, but have since confirmed he was working as a professional driver.

Law enforcement officials believe there may have been a second suspect in the vicinity and are checking surveillance footage from homes in the neighborhood.

“We do believe that there may be a second suspect involved in this incident,” said Sgt. Richard Krynski to KTLA news. Troy Drive was shut down throughout the investigation.

No suspects have been arrested in connection to the attempted robbery and shooting. A description of the gunman has not yet been made available to the public.
