SANTA MONCIA—Rogelio Bobadilla, 28, fatally struck an elderly pedestrian while driving under the influence at the intersection of 5th and Arizona on Tuesday, November 17 at approximately 12:50 a.m. Bobadilla committed a hit-and-run after failing to stop at the red light.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Bobadilla fled the scene before officers arrived, but witnesses were able to provide officers with detailed information about the vehicle he was driving. The name of the victim has not yet been disclosed to the public.
Additional radio calls came into the Santa Monica Police Department regarding another collision in the area of Lincoln and Olympic possibly involving the suspect’s vehicle. Officers arrived and found the vehicle, but not the suspect.
A search of the area was conducted when Bobadilla was located and detained. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Monica Jail after he exhibited signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication.
Bobadilla was booked on the following charges:
- 23152(A) and (B): Driving under the influence of alcohol and with a BAC of .08% or greater
- 20002(A) VC: Hit and Run
- 20001(A) VC: Hit and Run with Injury or Death
- 191.5(A) PC: Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated
He is being held on $100,000 bail. The Traffic Collision investigator will be presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing.
