HOLLYWOOD HILLS—Police responded to “Dancing with the Stars” pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s home at the 1500 block of Sunset Plaza Drive on Tuesday, April 25 at around 2 a.m., when an intruder reportedly attempted to break into the home.

“Early this morning, there was a trespasser who attempted to break into our home,” Chmerkovskiy said on Tuesday, according to reports. “The LAPD responded and my family and I are all OK.”

According to reports, Chmerkovskiy, 37, was at home with his fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd, and their 3-month-old baby, Shai Aleksander, when he was awakened at 2:20 a.m. by loud knocking on the door. When he came down, officers informed him there was a man outside, claiming the home to be his. Chmerkovskiy showed his renter’s agreement to the police to confirm his right to stay on the property. He asked to see the intruder and his friend, in case they appeared in the neighborhood again. The two men who were described as “belligerent drunk.”

During an interview on SiriusXM’s “Conversations with Maria Menounos,” Chmerkovskiy said it was an “ongoing thing with the ex-owner of this house,” who used to be a rock singer and lost the home due to financial problems.

According to the police, the incident was considered a civil dispute. No crime was committed and no arrests were made. The incident occurred hours after Chmerkovskiy and his partner, Heather Morris, were eliminated from season 24 of “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday night, after they received the season’s first perfect score. Chmerkovskiy had returned to the competition after being forced to sit out for three weeks due to a leg injury.

Chmerkovskiy was unable to appear on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday after the elimination, as scheduled. Morris explained that his absence was due to the intrusion.

“They had some sort of run in with some man near their house trying to break in, but the police were there,” Morris said. “They took care of it. So they’re safe and Peta’s okay. That’s the most important thing.”

Chmerkovskiy first appeared in season 2 of “Dancing with the Stars” and made it to the final round five times during his time as a competing dancer. In May 2014, during season 18 of the show, he won his first title with partner Meryl Davis.
