SANTA MONICA_”The eighth annual Airport ArtWalk will take place on Saturday, March 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event which is free to the public will offer art and ceramic demonstrations, art/theater workshops, food, live music and much more.

 

The airport will serve as home to more than 60 artists and creative venues. Some of the artists will be selling their work at the event as well. According to a press release from the City of Santa Monica, Arena 1 gallery will present “Alternate Realities” which celebrates more than 14 contemporary photographers.

 

The Santa Monica College Art Mentor Program will feature the works form several Art Department Students who were invited to partake in the one of a kind learning program. The Santa Monica College Ceramic Arts will offer throwing and Raku firing demonstrations and a ceramic art project for kids.

 

Restaurants like Spitfire Grill, The Lobos Truck, India Jones Chow Truck, Sprinklesmobile cupcakes and Kings Road Coffee Truck will be on hand for participants.  The Ruskin Group Theatre will offer theater improvisation workshops for children. Hands-on activities for all ages include the creation of eco-friendly art using recycled latex house paint, the creation of self-watering terrarium out of recycled glass bottles and jars, and the ArtWalk Stamp Hunt, that allows the exploration of the ArtWalk and airport with a reward to those who complete it. Musical performance will take place throughout the day thanks to a 10-piece band, the Carmen Perez Memorial Marching Band will perform a lively repertoire of sounds and styles that were inspired by music from all over the world.

 

The Museum of Flying will offer various displays and interpretive exhibits on the history of flight, aviation and aerospace industry in Southern California. Such exhibits include original artifacts connected to the Douglas Aircraft Company, aviation art, and a selection of aircraft from a Wright Flyer replica to the aircraft of the jet age. Tours will also be available to provide tips on how to green gardens, courtesy of the Airport’s Demonstration Gardens. Three different sustainable garden designs include eco-friendly lawn alternatives, a vegetable garden, private sanctuary and an outdoor room.

 

The Santa Monica Airport is located on Airport Avenue near Bundy Drive and 23rd Street. Parking and bike valet is free for those who attend.
