BEVERLY HILLS—On Tuesday, February 26, a 91-year-old man died after getting trapped in a fire at a two-story condominium in the neighborhood of Pico Robertson on 850 S. Bedford Street.

It was reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department that the fire was extinguished within 14 minutes by 55 firefighters, but the victim, who was later discovered inside, he sustained critical, fire-related injuries.

The LAFD tweeted, “Tragically, the adult male transported, has been pronounced dead at an area hospital. This is now a civilian fatality structure fire.” The name of the victim has not yet been released to the public.

It was reported by CBS2 that neighbors indicated that the victim tended to hoard items inside his home. An investigation is currently underway by officials to determine the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.

According to officials, the lack of a working smoke alarm in the building could be an important factor in the investigation.
