PASADENA—Actress Vanessa Marquez, 49, known for her reoccurring role as Nurse Wendy Goldman on the NBC series “ER” was shot and killed during a police confrontation on Thursday, August 30, at around 11:50 a.m. Officials confirmed the identity of the deceased on Friday, August 31.

According to reports, a landlord called authorities for a welfare check on the actress. South Pasadena Police offers went to Marquez’s home in the 110 block of Fremont Avenue. When officials arrived, Marquez was suffering from a seizure.

“She was suffering from some problems, [an] eating disorder,” said Sgt. Joe Mendoza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff sources said a clinician accompanied the South Pasadena officers and talked to the actress for close to an hour. Marquez armed herself with a BB gun, a weapon officers said resembled a semi-automatic handgun, and pointed it at the officers, at which point the officer-involved shooting transpired. The actress was shot in the torso and taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured at the scene of the confrontation.

Marquez appeared on the  TV series “Wiseguy” and “Seinfeld.” Her last acting credit was as Drink Connoisseur #2 in the 2017 short “The Problem with Evolution.” The actress appeared on the A&E series “Intervention” where she discussed her shopping addiction.
